What We Do
Unite for Sight is a non-profit organization dedicated to "improving eye health and eliminating preventable blindness" in communities that do not have access to medical care. College students contribute to the organization through their own university chapters. The Duke University Chapter for Unite for Sight has been serving the community since 2003.
Local Contribution
As a part of the local Durham community, we currently provide various services to the community. We organize vision screenings for elementary school students and adults at shelter homes. Adults at shelter homes often cannot afford vision care, so we help them find and connect to appropriate insurance supports. We also collaborate with Duke medical students and health fairs in local churchs and malls to serve general public and raise awareness about eye health.
International Volunteering
Recognizing the dire need for vision care in developing countries, Unite for Sight has been working with partner eye clinics in Ghana, India, and Thailand. For nearly three years, 6,000 people had recovered their vision and hundreds of thousands have received vital eye care for infections, glaucoma, and other eye illness. Unite for Sight volunteers (students, doctors, nurses) travel to India
and Ghana to volunteer at local eye clinics which provides free eye
examinations to those in need.

We'll be discussing upcoming events including screenings at the Emily K Center and a health fair at the First Calvary Church. We also want to get your input, so please come prepared to brainstorm ways in which Duke Unite for Sight can improve its impact at Duke and in Durham.
Finally, there will be FREE PIZZA so please come hungry!
